NAKATSUGAWA, Gifu (November 12-13) – Sosuke Takatani won his fourth straight collegiate freestyle national championship crown at 74kg to lead Takushoku University to its third straight and fifth overall title in season-ending student event.

Takatani edged Kohei Kitamura (Waseda) in the final to become only the fifth wrestler to win four straight in the collegiate freestyle nationals and was named the outstanding wrestler of the tournament.

The most recent wrestler to win four straight was Tsukasa Sato (Waseda, 66kg) from 2003 to 2006.

The only other Takushoku wrestler in the finals was collegiate greco-roman champ Kotaro Muraki, who edged Waseda freshman Shori Maekawa at 120kg to secure the team title for the defending champs.

Waseda, the East Japan league champion in May, had to settle for second place in the team rankings after getting four wrestlers in the finals, but failing to claim an individual title.

Greco-roman collegiate team champion Nippon Sports Sciences University and Senshu University each came away with a pair of first-time champions and moved into third and fourth places, respectively.

In a meeting of freshman wrestlers in the 60kg final, Masaru Ikeda (Nihon) slipped by Masakazu Kamoi (Yamanashi Gakuin), 2-1, to become the 18th first-year wrestler to win a national collegiate crown.
