ISHIDA, TAKATANI WIN 3RD FS COLLEGIATE OPEN CROWNS

TOKYO (August 31 – September 1) – Tomotsugu Ishida of Waseda University and Takushoku's Sosuke Takatani won their third straight titles in the men's freestyle events of the national collegiate wrestling open championships.

 

Takatani defeated Waseda's Kohei Kitamura, 2-0 (3-0, 1-0), in the 74kg final for a second straight year and was named the outstanding wrestler of the men's events – freestyle and greco-roman. Ishida, meanwhile, defeated last year's junior world bronze medalist Yasuhiro Suzuki (Takushoku), 2-0, for the 60kg crown as was named the OW for men's freestyle.

 

Along with Ishida's win for Waseda, teammates Takeshi Yamaguchi (84kg) and Akira Osaka (96kg) also grabbed titles for the Takuya Ota-coached wrestlers.

 

Nippon Sports Sciences University's Naoto Takayasu (55kg) and Takuma Koishibara (66kg) won a pair of titles, giving NSSU under the guidance of Shingo Matsumoto seven men's titles overall.
