TOKYO (May 24) – The city of Hachimantai in Iwate prefecture was named as the replacement site for this summer's high school national championships, the national high school sports federation formally decided at its meeting on May 24.
The federation decided on Hachimantai after the coastal city of Miyako suffered considerable damage in the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
The high school wrestling championships are being co-hosted by the four northern prefectures of the Tohoku region – Aomori, Iwate, Akita and Miyagi. The championships with team and individual competition in men's freestyle will be held August 1-4.
